In December 2022, we embarked on a journey to introduce the world to what we believed was the best-quality kombucha we had ever encountered. Our journey began in the United Arab Emirates, a place where borders seemed to melt away in the face of our passion for crafting the perfect kombucha. Little did we know that our venture would lead us to a much larger world of kombucha, stretching from the sun-soaked shores of California to the vibrant streets of Sydney, Australia.

Fast forward almost a year later, and we found ourselves scrolling through an Instagram ad that would change the course of our kombucha story. The ad announced the prestigious World Kombucha Awards, set to take place in the picturesque city of Barcelona, Spain. What caught our attention was not just the allure of this international event, but the fact that the jury committee included local wine experts and global kombucha connoisseurs. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to establish our mark on the global kombucha stage.

With unwavering determination, we selected three flavors from our regular lineup of six: the zesty Ginger & Lemon, the aromatic Lavender & Rosemary, and the bold Yuzu & Chilli. The challenges of sending our beloved kombucha from the UAE to Barcelona were nothing compared to the excitement that filled our hearts.

A month later, an email arrived that would set our spirits soaring. We had not only participated, but we had triumphed. YALA Kombucha had won an award at the World Kombucha Awards, and an invitation awaited us to attend the grand award ceremony in the vibrant city of Barcelona.

October brought with it beautiful weather, and we decided to make it a family affair. We brought our children along, inviting our parents to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion. A five-day weekend aligned perfectly with a school break, and we couldn’t have asked for a better setting to accept an award for something we were truly passionate about our very own kombucha.

And the verdict? We proudly took home the Bronze medal in one of the most hotly contested categories, with our Ginger & Lemon kombucha. The Lavender & Rosemary was no slouch either, making it to the finals, while our Yuzu & Chilli garnered appreciation, albeit with a hint of “spiciness” that European palates weren’t quite accustomed to.

All in all, our journey had taken a remarkable turn, one filled with gratitude for the long and arduous process of perfecting the Ginger & Lemon flavor. It was a journey that proved that when passion meets dedication, the results can be nothing short of extraordinary. As we move forward, we do so with a newfound sense of purpose and an unshakeable commitment to bringing the finest kombucha to our cherished customers. Barcelona was just the beginning, and we’re excited to see where our kombucha journey will take us next. Cheers to the taste of victory!
